Planes, Trains and Duck Tours

I've decided that it is finally time for me to tell you about my jaunts to the Pacific Northwest.  It all started with a rather long ride in the air.  And I must admit that although it was my first, I was very unimpressed with air travel.  The seats were extremely small and there was absolutely no leg room.  And not to mention the crying kids.  And to think that a Knight was subjected to this...  They must not have recognized me as Sir Basil.

Following that exhausting ride it was time to take some sort of train called the Light Rail.  This was much nicer and less crowded.  But again, no special seating area for those of higher status - like a Gnome such as myself.

I quickly learned that I was going to be subjected to all sorts of travel on this particular trip and that I must adapt.  Good thing I am very quick achieving equilibrium in different states.  This is some sort of contraption called a "Duck" and they claim it is amphibious.  I was skeptical...

Alas, it does indeed float.  Thank goodness.  I did not want to have to demonstrate to so many bystanders my impeccable swimming ability.  And those life preservers just look silly on you.  Especially when you have very little neck - like myself.

Seattle is such an interesting city.  What sort of place designs a building after a smashed guitar??  That is certainly not architecture that would be fit for a Knight to live in or near...

Our next adventure would be to the Locks.  This is such an interesting accomplishment of engineering talent.  But they still couldn't figure out a way to keep me from taking a terrible fall...  Broken legs really are uncomfortable - even if your legs are only two inches long.

Okay, maybe I did break a few rules while I was in the Emerald City...

This picture makes me look very regal.  Sir Basil indeed.

I admit that I was a bit terrified of being near crustaceans that are so near to my size.  What sort of things do they put in the water on the Pacific Northwest?

The next adventure was to Pike Place Market.  What a quaint little place.  Very much like my hometown market.  Such wonderful folks people.  Takes me back to the days when I was just a wee little Basil.

They tell me that this place is where the coffee craze began.  Some place called Starbucks.  We don't have those in Wostershireville, my hometown.  No fancy cups and long lines to wait in back there.  But here we were waiting for what seemed like forever.  I must admit, the coffee was rather nice.  And warm.  That was very important because it was a blustery day in Seattle.  But I had to go to the bathroom quite badly after drinking a cup of coffee that was more than half my size.

Well, I think that is probably enough of my rants about Seattle.  Really, quite an interesting town.  Lots to see and do.  Always something interesting going on for a Gnome to get into.  It was an enjoyable experience.  Maybe I'll venture there again sometime in the future.

For now I'm off to another one of my jaunts across the globe!  Cheers!!

It's Good to Have Land

It's official! On Tuesday, October 26, 2010, I was knighted by King Franklin of Northcreek!

My charge is to travel the world and to report to King Franklin's subjects about the various adventures (and probable mishaps) I encounter. Never in my 117 years on this earth did I imagine I would be asked to jet around the globe, albeit in overstuffed suitcases, and compose a journal to be read by literally tens of people. I don't know what may lie ahead; nevertheless, let the jaunts begin!

My first trip will be to Seattle, Washington. Check back soon for my report!

- Basil
